Visitors can go into Malaysia by air, sea, roads and rail. The main entries to Malaysia are through the
- International airport
- Ocean terminal
- Roads
- Trains

Arrival |

Upon arriving in Malaysia , visitors must declare the entire duty item and all the prohibited items which are owned by him / her. Visitors might be required to open, taking out and putting back their luggages in order for the customs checking. This is needed under the customs act.
Customs checking on the luggages are to determine the amount of customs duty imposed on visitors arriving in Malaysia at all entry points. Visitors don't need to pay any customs duty when they are traveling in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, except Sabah's Labuan and Kedah's Langkawi island as both of them are declared as free tax zone. |

Green Lane / Red Lane System |

In the entry gate especially at the airport, there is a green lane / red lane system. The entire visitor can go through the green lane if he / she doesn't bring along any duty items or prohibited items. For those visitors having any duty items or prohibited items, theymust go through the red lane. He / she must declare those items to the on duty customs officers. |

Duty exemption for visitors |

Visitors are allowed to bring in the following items without any need to pay the customs duty if they fulfill the following requirements:
- Wine or liquor that not exceeding 1 liter in total
- Tobacco not more than 225 gram (equals to 200 cigarettes)
- New clothes not exceeding 3 pieces
- New shoes not exceeding 1 pair
- Mobile electronic device for sanitary usage not exceeding 1 unit
- Dutiable food not exceeding RM75
- Gifts or souvenirs not more than RM400 (except items purchased from Langkawi and Labuan with total value not more than RM500)
The above items can be imported and exempted from customs duty if they fulfill the following requirements:
- Imported items brought along or inside the luggage.
- Items are for own or frequent used
- Non Malaysia residence visitors who do not plan to stay in Malaysia for more than 72 hours.
- Malaysia residence visitors who are overseas for more than 72 hours or 24 hours for Langkawi and Labuan only.
All the visitors who bring dutiable items exceed the tax free amount need to pay the tax on the exceeding items at 30% of the items value. |

Dangerous drugs |

All dangerous drugs such as morphine, heroin are prohibited from import and export.
Smuggling drug into Malaysia carries the DEATH sentence. Dangerous drugs can be imported or exported with the permission of the Health Ministry of Malaysia. |
