Airport Taxis

 
Taxis are readily available when you arrive at the Penang International Airport .
It's locateed at the arrival hall which is the lower floor of the Penang International Airport .

The general guide of fares of taxi services as below:
Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone : RM22 – RM26
George Town / Komtar : RM38
Batu Ferringhi : RM60

City Taxis

Currently, Penang state government had enforced all city taxis to use meter. But, you might find out that some of the taxi drivers do not use meter. You may either insist on the meter being turned on or agree on the price before you leave. Taxis normally charge between RM3 and RM6 for short distances within the city.

Rental Car
 

Auto touring is an excellent way to see the country via highways that pass through spectacular scenery and roads that pass through quaint villages. There are few car rental services available at the lower floor of Penang International Airport . An international driving permit or a valid driver's license issued by your government is required to drive in Malaysia . Rates for a car vary from RM40 to RM300 per day. Car rental can be arranged through your hotel or directly with a car rental company. All international rules apply to tourists driving in the country.

Drivers on self-drive holidays should keep in mind that traffic circulation is on the left. At roundabouts give way to the driver on your right. Drivers and front seat passengers are required by law to wear safety belts.

 
 
Buses
 
Penang is served by many buses which ply the various routes between the city and other destinations within the island. Fares are charged based on the distance. The main pick-up points are Jetty (Pengkalan Weld/ ferry terminal) and Komtar. There are few bus operators which provide public bus transportation in Penang Island.

Free Shuttle - Hop On Free Central Area Transit (CAT)
 

Visitors to Penang can now enjoy a bus ride within George Town, the UNESCO World Heritage City, for FREE. The Hop On Free Central Area Transit (CAT) ply the route between Weld Quay Jetty and Komtar on 15-minute intervals from 6am-12midnight. Exploring the grounds of the UNESCO World Heritage City has never been this convenient now with 19 CAT stops in between all the famous heritage landmarks of Penang!

Climb onboard the CAT today and explore all the wonderful heritage sites of Penang. Take a tour to the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower, Fort Cornwallis, Penang War Memorial, City Hall, Penang Supreme Court Building, Cathedral of the Assumption, Penang State Museum, Goddess of Mercy Temple, The Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Church Street Pier, Mahamariamman Temple, Khoo Kongsi, Cheong Fatt Sze Mansion, Francis Light's grave and many more heritage sites!

CAT is managed by the Municipal Council of Penang Island (MPPP) and operated by Rapid Penang.

Trishaws

A trishaw ride is one of the best ways of seeing Penang . Although trishaws are much less prevalent these days, they are still a popular way to tour George Town. Trishaws allow visitors the opportunity of sights-seeing at a more leisurely pace-stopping at any point to snap pictures or buy souvenirs.

There is no standard fare and it would be wise to agree on the price before you step on the trishaw. For extended sightseeing, it is advisable to hire them by the hour.
