By Rail

 

Besides taking flight to Penang, you can choose an alternative way to reach Penang .

That is by using train.
You can use train service provided by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM).
You can reach Penang from any states in Peninsular Malaysia.
Besides that, you can use rail service if you are departing from Singapore and Thailand .

By Ferry

 

Penang Port has a unique selling point in that it is the only port in Malaysia providing ferry service. This service links George Town on Penang Island and to Butterworth on the mainland.

The ferry service daily operations hours is from 0600 hours to 0030 hours.

Besides the Penang Ferry services, there are also ferry services between Penang and Pulau Langkawi. The Langkawi ferry services operates daily and with stopover at Pulau Payar, a famous place for diving in North Part of Peninsular Malaysia. The Langkawi ferry services take around 3 hours.
 
There is also another ferry service which connect between Penang and Medan, Indonesia. The Medan ferry service which also operated by Langkawi Ferry services takes around 6 hours.
 
The Langkawi and Medan ferry services depart and arrive at Swettenham Pier which is near to the Fort Cornwallis and also Weld Quay (Ferry Terminal). You can take any public bus heading to Weld Quay and walk around 5 minutes to reach Swettenham Pier.

Penang bridge is another alternative route which link the mainland of Peninsular Malaysia to Penang Island .
But the Penang bridge is accessible by road only.

Toll charges are only applicable when you are driving from Butterworth to Penang Island only.

No payment is required for traveling from the island to the mainland.

Express Bus
 
Besides driving, you can take express buses from any city in Peninsular Malaysia and also from Singapore.
There are a lot of express bus operators which provide daily services to plight all route to major cities in Malaysia and Singapore.
You can get your tickets directly from the Sungai Nibong Express Bus terminal which is located South of Penang.
Do make sure you get your genuine tickets from the ticketing counters.
