Penang is a place wherethe three major ethnics: Malays, Chinese and Indians live together. Because of that, there are 3 major local fashion clothings available in Penang . From the Malays, baju kurung is worn by women for occasions such as school (as a uniform) or to a wedding. It is brightly coloured and can come in a variety of different printed designs. It is a knee length dress with full length sleeves. Baju kurungs are easily available at the Malay bazaars.

The Chinese women wear the cheongsam , a one-piece dress with a high neck, diagonally closed with small clips or toggles (fabric clasps). Normally, cheongsams have a lot of beautiful sewing on it. These sewing illustrate some Chinese auspicious symbols, flowers and many more. Cheongsams are normally dressed during the Chinese New Year or on any big Chinese festive celebrations. |
