Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple

Founded on the 1 st of August 1803, the temple was then known as NANDY MOLOH Burmese Temple . This place of public worship was purchased y Nonya Beton from George Layton for 390 Spanish Dollars and donated to the temple. Being one if the earliest and the only Burmese Buddhist Temple in Malaysia and featuring the historical Pagoda, the temple well and Sima Hall, the temple was designated in 1988 as one the state heritages sites to be preserved as a tourist attraction.

Since its inception, the temple is presently managed by the seventh chief monk. To facilitate and complement the practice of Buddhism, the temple has a man shrine hall, Sima Hall, a dining hall, Monks quarters PRECEPTEES' lodge, Sunday school classroom, a library and a lecture hall. Renowned for its green and serene environment, the temple participated and was awarded 1st prize in the state landscaping and beautification programme held in 2001.

  • Offering of Robes and Requisites (Katnina) Observing of Eight Precepts
  • Ordination of Monks, Nuns and Novices Offering of Food
  • Arahant Upagutta Festival Candle Lighting

You can take public bus

1. RapidPenang U101 or U104 from Weld Quay (ferry terminal) via Komtar and you need to stop at Jalan Burma.

2. RapidPenang U103 from Weld Quay (ferry terminal) via Komtar and you need to stop at Jalan Kelawi.
The temple just located at Lorong Burma.
