2ND PENANG INTERNATIONAL KIDS STORYTELLING FESTIVAL 2011

 

Come and be animated by the power of storytelling as international and local storytellers will converge at Penang International Kids Storytelling Festival at Straits Quay this November to tell stories.

This remarkable opportunity would provide for a cultural exchange platform and strengthen education as well as preserve and renew the world's fading cultures of storytelling.

The storytelling will be mainly in English, with some storytellers telling in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tamil and other languages as well.

On top of that, this festival attempts to break the Malaysia Book of Records for 10 hours non-stop Nursery Rhymes and PoetryRecitation by children aged between 4 and 12 years old. And packed with many more fun and entertaining activities.

The festival is open to all walks of life, especially children and is free. This is not a competition.

 
TARGET GROUPS
Preschool and Primary school children (from 4 to 12 years old) and their families.
 
LANGUAGES
The storytelling will be mainly in English, with some storytellers telling in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tamil and other languages as well.
 
STORYTELLING BY KIDS
Although this event is not about storytelling by kids and neither is it a competition, nevertheless there will be platforms provided for children to tell their stories as well. Please check with your child’s school to register.
 
 
19 NOVEMBER 2011 (SATURDAY)

10.00 am-10.30 am Opening Ceremony at the Main Stage
11.00 am-12.30 pm Storytelling for all ages in different languages (concurrent session)
12.30 pm-1.30 pm Break for lunch & a local folklore presentation by SERI ASUN Wayang Kulit at the Main Stage
1.30 pm-4.30 pm Storytelling for all ages in different languages (concurrent session) continues;
5.00 pm-6.30 pm Final Countdown session of nursery rhymes and Poetry Recitation, followed by Closing Ceremony at the Main Stage

How to get there?
You can take public bus

1. RapidPenang U101 from from Weld Quay (ferry terminal) / from Batu Feringhi.

2. RapidPenang U103 or U104 from Weld Quay (ferry terminal) / from Tanjung Bungah.
and you need to disembark at Tanjong Tokong primary school / Tesco Tanjong Tokong. Then, you might need to take 15 minutes walk to reach Straits Quay.
