Penang Island is irregularly shaped, with a granitic, hilly and mostly forested interior, the highest point being the Western Hill (part of Penang Hill) at 830 meters above sea level.
Province Wellesley (Seberang Prai)
The oastal strip on the mainland. The topography of Province Wellesley is mostly flat. Butterworth is the main town in Province Wellecsley.
The island and mainland are separated by a channel 3 km wide at the narrowest point and 13 km at the widest. They are linked by the 13.5 km Penang Bridge , the third longest in the world, and a ferry service.
The urban centre is George Town . |
